cPHulk is a service that provides protection against brute force attacks to your website, emails, and server. The brute force attack uses an automated system to guess the password of your web server or services. The most powerful and latest one is cPanel & WHM version 70.
What is a brute force attack?
A brute force is a password guessing technique in which the attacker attempts to log in with a username and password repeatedly by changing either the username and/or the password if not successful. If the attacker is given enough time a moderately secure, random character password can fall victim to this as attackers use advanced software key generators to try every combination they can. This method of hacking is not refined but it can and does work, making security a prime concern.
How does cPhulk work?
cPHulk engages in cPanel & WHM installations and is used to monitor and block all login attempts made to cPanel, WHM, FTP, email, and SSH. It provides administrators with different methods to combat brute force attacks either automatically or manually. cPHulk is even be used to block unauthorized IP addresses in your firewall. Blocking unauthorized logins can be issued in various durations as per requirement varying from temporary ban to one-day or even permanent ban.
The cPHulk offers a massive control to the administrator, enabling them to easily specify the number of failed login attempts before an IP address will be blocked. It also allows defining additional actions to perform and trigger an automatic block, enabling notifications to the server administrators for every event that occurred.
Recent upgrades and updates on Version 70: Country Management
In previous versions of cPanel & WHM, server administrators could manage their blacklists by IP address only. But in Version 70, administrators can block login attempts by non-registered countries and can offer easier access to their chosen regions.
The upgrade has given administrators a greater versatility to protect data. Consider a case when a server administrator only operates in North America is alerted to suspicious traffic from Iceland, that user can now block all login attempts coming in from that country. But a host can also make exceptions for individual IPs from that list of IPs or remove the country.
cPHulk gives core security in cPanel and helps users work with ease and protects you and your clients’ accounts from being locked out and hacked. Whether one is new to cPanel or not he/she should use cPHulk for availing maximum security.
