PrestaShop is a world-class, open source e-commerce platform that enables you to start selling online, and it has been loaded with all the tools you need to make your online store a success. While creating and managing an online store is time-consuming, installing PrestaShop more than makes up for it with its simple and easy-to-use installation process.
If you’re already using cPanel, you’ll be pleased to know you can use the Softaculous App Installer to install PrestaShop for you in a matter of minutes.
If not, you can download the latest version of PrestaShop from their website. Extract the file on your local computer and upload the file package, via FTP or using File Manager in cPanel, to the public_html directory. If you are doing a manual installation you’ll need to create a new MySQL database before you start.
When you access the directory you completed the installation in, you will see a welcome screen where you’ll be able to set the default language for your online store. Once that is done PrestaShop will conduct a system audit to ensure the configuration has been completed correctly.
After you’ve pushed Next, you will need to enter the MySQL database details you created above. We recommend you select Full mode so you have access to the basic modules and a few sample products (especially if it’s your first time using PrestaShop).
Once that’s done all you need to do is insert the login details and company logo and you’re almost ready to start loading products.
Adding Products To Your PrestaShop
Now that the installation is complete, it’s time to start adding your products.
Once you have logged into your admin panel, navigate to the Catalog tab and click on Add a new subcategory. On the page that opens you will need to add the category details.
PrestaShop supports multiple languages and, by pressing the language icon, you’ll be able to load descriptions for all languages installed on your website. Then, press save.
Navigate to the Catalog page and click Sample category from the table. Then, press Add a new product. On the page that opens you must include your product details:
Remember, an effective product description that focuses on the benefits to the user (as well as competitive pricing and support availability) will help you sell more online.
After you have saved and enabled the new product it will be live and available for online purchase.
Activating Payment Methods
PrestaShop offers various payment methods for your online store. Once you’re logged into the admin area of the website, click on Payment.
PrestaShop supports cash on delivery (COD), checks, PayPal, Authorize.net AIM, CashTicket, Google Checkout, bank wire payments, DIBS payments, Paysafe Card, Hipay, Ogone payments and Moneybooker.
Once you’ve activated and configured your payment options you’re ready to start selling.
