Steps to rest SSL certificate appiles only to cPanel & WHM version 11.54 and earlier. The following review will be explaining the reason behind why a user will receive an email notification to reset his SSL certificates for the cPanel services.

Why you Received an Email Notification to Reset your cPanel SSL Certificates?

The SSL certificate will become invalid if, a user fails to reset it before its expiry term. The server will send reminder email notifications once the certificate of the cPanel service gets expired within 30 days. Once expired, the system on its own, will renew self-signed certificates. Also, the user himself can renew the certificates at any time to stop the email notifications from popping up.

Example:

To: John@example.com

From: root@server.example.com

Subject: “The SSL certificate for cPanel on server.example.com will expire in less than 30 days.”

Body: Your server’s SSL certificate for cpanel will expire in less than 30 days. You need to install a new certificate as soon as possible. You can install a new certificate using WHM’s “Manage Service SSL Certificates” interface: https://server.example.com:2087/scripts2/manageservicecrts (Home >> Service Configuration >> Manage Service SSL Certificates).

The email notification preferences can also be modified by the user. Read our Contact Manager documentation to get more information on this topic.

How to Reset Self-signed SSL Certificates

It is to be noted that when the SSL certificate is reset by the user for Calendar, cPanel, Webdisk, Webmail, and WHM Services, the system will log the user out of WHM. The user  will have to log in again in order to reset additional certificates.

Steps:

To reset the self-signed SSL certificates, the user has to:

  • Log in to WHM as the root user.
  • Then navigate to WHM’s Manage Service SSL Certificates interface (WHM >> Home >> Service Configuration >> Manage Service SSL Certificates).
  • Thereafter, click on Reset Certificate, in the Actions column, for the desired service.

Hence, the new expiration date will be displayed in the Certificate Expiration column.

Conclusion

All information regarding the reset of cPanel SSL certificates and email notifications is outlined in this review.
