WHM provides you with several tools to keep your server safely protected from any kind of vulnerabilities. You can easily keep out harmful programs like viruses and malware from your system. Using features like Security Advisor, ClamAV and Quick Security Scan you can identify weaknesses in your server. You will be notified as soon a threat has been detected in your server. You can then go through each of the individual errors and resolve them with the help of these programs.
The Security Advisor program helps you to maintain a healthy online ecosystem for your server. It runs a thorough check throughout your system options and identifies problems that might sabotage the security of the server. You can access this feature under the Security and Virus Scans in WHM window. From the WHM main page go to Home > Security Center > Security Advisor. After it has run a scan, it will provide you the necessary information so that you can take care of that particular flaw in your system.
Even though your machine might appear to be idle, there might be some applications or processes running on the background. It might be something that has been approved by the administrator of the server. It might also happen to be a malicious program that has been designed to silently exploit the machine’s resources or to steal data. Using the Background Process Killer feature you can schedule certain processes to automatically deactivate when a script is triggered. You can find the options under the Security and Virus Scans in WHM interface. Go to WHM > Home > System Health > Background Process Killer. The selected processes will be stopped at the end of the day when the system maintenance script is called by the upcp script. You will be sent a notification over email when a process has been killed.
WHM comes with an antivirus program to protect the system from all kinds of threats. You can access it at WHM > Home > Plugins > Configure ClamAV Scanner under the Security and Virus Scans in WHM interface. It will scan your system for malware, scamware and viruses. The blacklisted files will then be presented to you for further action. You can then either choose to remove them or quarantine them for reference.
You can use any or all of the three methods mentioned above to protect your server from any kind of external threats like viruses, malware and third party attacks.
