Website migration is very important if you want to move from one hosting service to another. Looking closer, it’s nothing more but the transferring of data between domains without any data loss issues.
Moving is easy to do, but it is full of processes that even experts can mess up. How is it done, and how can one make sure to make the process as smooth as possible.
With the advancement of technology the process of migrating a website has become undoubtedly easy. Let’s run through these steps:
Step 1 – Setting up your objective and lining up processes.
It is the fundamental step. In this very 1st stage the total migration plan has to be prepared taking into account your objectives, time, and resources. So a serious amount of effort and time needs to be provided here.
Planning the migration requires you to line up processes in order to avoid unnecessary errors that will mess up the end results.
Step 2 – Creating a backup of your website’s files.
Once you set up the plan the next thing you have to do is to back up every aspect of your site. There are many ways to do this. You may login to cPanel and obtain compressed backups of website files and database information.
You may also use an FTP program, connect to yourweb host and copy all the files to a folder on your computer.
There are many backup software that one can choose from. If you are using WordPress, there are even more backup plugins.
Step 3 – Transferring the files.
Now upload the backup files to the new server. For simple websites, it can be done via FTP or using the file manager in the cPanel.
WordPress sites are even easier to upload using WordPress Clone for free. As mentioned before, there are many plugins you can choose from if you’re dealing with WordPress.
After the files are completely uploaded the web page will refresh. You may then adjust some settings if you want.
Step – Check if the Database is working properly.
Be sure that the database is working properly. Note the prefix of each database and change them accordingly.
Add all the usernames, passwords etc. Adjust the settings for a smooth and hassle free operation.
Step – Switching to new name servers.
We are almost done. All you have to do is to tell the domain or point the domain to the proper DNS of your server.
Look at this way, since the website transferred to a new place, the domain name or URL needs to know the new address of your home. You can do it by logging into DNS registration settings in your TLD vendor and then going into cPanel domain registration.
Step – Finishing touch.
Test your website and be sure everything is working properly. There is a case of broken permalinks that you should be aware of. Make sure you have all images loading properly, and also be mindful of broken pages.
Once you are satisfied then all you have to do is to wrap up. You are done.
