Difference Between a FULL Dedicated Server and VPS cPanel License
Posted by Jeff B on 18 February 2010 04:41 AM

The type of Cpanel license you need and use depends on your type of server that has been set up; Virtual or full dedicated. All cpanel licenses come with a WHM on the base IP and client cpanel’s on all the accounts setup on that server.

A dedicated server needs one full license: The regular WHM full license set on your base IP. This one license covers all the accounts set up on that dedicated server. You can set up unlimited client accounts with their own client cpanel all under the one license.

Then, there is the VPS licenses that will only work on the servers with vps, virtuozzo, xen or vmware software installed. That software sets up different root partitions that you can resell to clients. You have to put more of the VPS licenses on your server, one VPS license to cover each one of the partitions. You can buy them one at a time as you resell your partitions to clients.

The difference between a WHM full cpanel licence or a vps licence features and options are not noticeable when you are using it.. With both licenses, as long as the server’s base IP has a cpanel license on it, it will cover unlimited IP’s, virtual accounts, IP based accounts, anything you set up on that server. One license cannot cover 2 servers. And, one server cannot have both types of licenses- so there is no need for you to put a full WHM license on your VPS server.
