How to Use LeechProtection in cPanel?

Brief introduction of Leech Protection

cPanel is a control panel which is used for web hosting and is Linux based. It provides a graphical interface and has automation tools which makes the process of hosting  a website easier. The Leech Protection interface is an essential component of cPanel. By using this interface the user can detect unusual levels of activity that take place in directories which are password restricted. The system redirects or suspends users who exceed  the maximum number of logins which has been set by the user.

Steps to enable leech protection

The following steps must be performed in order to enable “Leech Protection”:-

  1. The user has to select one of the four main directories that he wish to view from the Leech Protection
    • Home Directory(/home/user)
    • WebRoot(/PUBLIC_HTML/www)
    • Public FTP Root(/PUBLIC_FTP)
    • Document Root(/PUBLIC_HTML)
  2. The user has to select the directory which he wishes to protect.
    • The appropriate folder icon () must be selected in order to navigate to a different folder.
    • The user has to select the desired folder’s name which he wishes to select
  3. The maximum number of logins has to be entered which would be allowed to each user within a two-hour period.
  4. A URL has to entered to which you wish to redirect the users who exceed the maximum number of logins within a two-hour period.
  5. The Send Email Alert Tocheckbox option has to be selected in order to configure the system ad send an email alert when Leech Protect After that the email address to alert has to be entered.
  6. To disable an account that exceeds the maximum number of logins, The Disable Compromised Accountscheckbox has to be selected in order to disable an account that exceeds the maximum number of logins.
  7. Finally the option Enable has to be clicked.

Steps to disable Leech Protection

The following steps must be performed in order to disable leech protection:-

1.The user has to select one of the four main directories that he wish to view from the Leech Protection window.

How to use Manage users?

The Manage Users  option has to be selected in order to add, edit or delete users and navigate to cPanel ‘s Directory Privacy interface (cPanel >> Home >> Security >> Directory Privacy).
