Introduction

There is a way to configure a user’s mail client to receive their cPanel email efficiently and easily. The AutoConfigure (AutoConfig) and Autodiscover services work as a partner with Microsoft Outlook®, Outlook Express®, Thunderbird, and most other popular mail clients.

Enable AutoConfig and Autodiscover

Steps:

  • Firstly, user has to navigate to the Domains section of WHM’s Tweak Settings interface (WHM >> Home >> Server Configuration >> Tweak Settings).
  • Next, he needs to locate the Service subdomains setting and turn it On.
  • Similarly, he needs to locate the Thunderbird and Outlook autodiscover and autoconfig support (which helps in enabling service subdomain and SRV record creation) setting and turn it On as well.
  • Finally, click on Save option to save all the changes.

Additional Settings

Additional settings on AutoConfig and Autodiscover is available in the Domains section of WHM’s Tweak Settings interface (WHM >> Home >> Server Configuration >> Tweak Settings), where mail services are allowed to configure for Thunderbird and Outlook® autodiscover and autoconfig support. This helps in selecting the method for email tranfer with this support, defaulting to imap.

Also, additional Microsoft Outlook’s Autodiscover service setting considers a DNS, an SRV record for an email inbox’s domain. It marks a particular server for Autodiscover, by default which is, cpanelemaildiscovery.cpanel.net.

These actions are preformed due to this setting:

  • Selecting the host which the system publishes to the SRV records.
  • Altering the default host in case of the presence of SSL-enabled host, clubbed with SSL certificate duly signed by the Certificate Authority.
  • Using one’s own server for Outlook® Autodiscover. For this, user has to go to the available text box and enter the server’s Fully Qualified Domain Name (FQDN) accordingly.
  • Automatically, the system will query the server for the Autodiscover settings, as and when the Host to publish the SRV records for Outlook autodiscover support feature is enabled. For a proper functioning of this feature, user needs to have a custom XML file, where the default setting is cpanelemaildiscovery.cpanel.net.

One can visit our Microsoft’s Support website to get additional information about Microsoft Outlook’s Autodiscover feature.

Use AutoConfig and Autodiscover

For this, user has to enter a cPanel email address and password in the mail client. Thereafter, the services will configure with the mail client.

Apple® email clients does not allow the AutoConfig or AutoDiscover for IMAP servers. In that case, one’s server must run Exchange rather than IMAP to allow that support.

It is strongly recommended to follow the directions given in Email Accounts documentation while a user attempts to configure an Apple email client to access the cPanel email address.

Conclusion

All information on the usage of AutoConfig and AutoDiscover is outlined in the review.
