Get to Know EasyApache4

Posted by Jamison on 26 11 2015.

Control Panel (cPanel) users are in for a treat with the latest generation of EasyApache. The changes to the EasyApache4 are geared towards making it easier to use with PHP and Apache HTTPd in your web hosting manager (WHM) and cPanel. At first, the updates will only be available to users who are interested in moving to this new interface. Eventually, however, the updates will be permanent as the changes are major and crucial.

Here are the key improvements to the EasyApache4 software:

Enhanced Operating System Consolidation

For better integration of WHM and cPanel with the operating system that runs the server, the improved software will move certain Apache assets, files, and directories to align with the file system paths provided by RHEL and CentOS.  This change will enable users to modify and manage the software while expediting the deployment of the new Apache modules. Control Panel (cPanel) users are in for a treat with the latest generation of EasyApache. The changes to the EasyApache4 are geared towards making it easier to use with PHP and Apache HTTPd in your web hosting manager (WHM) and cPanel.

Despite the updates, old scripts will still be usable because the Symlinks will stay at /usr/local/apache.

Although this change may look complicated, the process of integration is actually very easy to do. In fact, the software makers claim that the process of porting majority of the RPM (Red Hat Package Manager) modules will just encompass three steps, namely: 1. the spec file modification, 2. appropriate dependencies provision, and 3. the RPM’s recompilation.

Shift of EasyApache Interface to System Package Manager

The move of the software interface to the System Package Manager aims to offer an interface provision for yum. EasyApache4 will enable cPanel to make yum repositories that will keep the software’s RPMs, including PHP, Apache, and friends. Through yum, customization and modification of repositories will be a breeze.

Since the aim of the software developer is the better integration of the server operating system with the cPanel and WHM, EasyApache4 will start to use RPMs. This change will enable faster processing time as well as better package control.

Support for Multi-PHP Domain

A support for Multi-PHP domain will be available in the new version of EasyApache. The good news is that this support will be offered at the level of VirtualHost. This will entail the simultaneous installation of different versions of PHP. The interfaces of WHM and cPanel will permit administrators and users to pick both system level and per-domain default versions of PHP. The new changes will be achieved through the use of Software Collections tool by Red Hat, including the entries of AddHandler in .htaccess files.

Modern Apache 2.4 Only

The newest generation of EasyApache will solely offer RPMs for Apache 2.4 version. The reason behind this is to ensure a simplified rolling out process of customization as well as to provide greater support for Apache users and customers.

Apache HTTPd and PHP Automatic Updates

With the EasyApache4, the updates of Apache HTTPd and PHP will be automatically done. However, users can decide to opt-out from the process so they can have better control of the Apache and PHP updates.

If you are already happy with the old version of EasyApache, the new changes to the software will surely make you more excited about maintaining, customizing, and managing files with the help of the new interface.
