Up to 50 Per Cent Faster Installation

Of course, there are a number of factors that will influence the speed of your cPanel and WHM installation, two of the biggest being the speed of your own internet connection and server configuration. However, when the developers tested the new installer, they have seen a considerable improvement in installation time.

Many of their tests have shown a reduction of up to 50 per cent in installing cPanel and WHM. This is an awesome development, seeing that previous installations used to last for around an hour. With the new installer version, this can be down to just a little more than 20 minutes.

Faster, Stronger, and Better

For all new installations of cPanel and WHM, you will get the new installer as a default. Several changes have been made to achieve this, including the following:

  • Precompiled EasyApache 3 Configuration. The main reason behind the speedy installation of new cPanel and WHM installations is the precompiling of EasyApache 3, which is the default configuration shipped out as a tarball.

  • No Need for New Compilation. As long as you do not make any customizations on EA, each of the new installation will not require you to use the new EasyApache compilation.

  • Prebuilt Locale Database. All the new installations utilize prebuilt locale databases. With this change, the script “/scripts/build_locale_databases” no longer runs while the installer works its magic.

  • Use of Tarballs for Certain Downloads. Previously, the installation of some core cPanel and WHM files involved using separate HTTP requests. With the faster installations, this is no longer necessary, as they use tarballs, making installation speedier and more convenient.

Just in case you do not want to take advantage of the new installer for cPanel and WHM, you can make use of a touchfile that will allow you to turn this default installer off.

A Few More Welcome Changes

The cPanel and WHM team has also made several other improvements, all of which are welcome changes. These work together to minimize installation time and make things easier for you to enjoy the control panel.

One of the updates is that, during the start of the installation procedure, memory checks will be conducted. These will help make certain that the server really does satisfy the minimum OS memory requirements.

There is also the new xz compression algorithm, which is designed to compress binaries and assets required for both installation and update. Thanks to this change, the size of the files have been dramatically reduced, further allowing you to enjoy reduced download time.
