Moving to another server is sometimes unavoidable. There are situations that the best thing to do for your website is to transfer to another server. This may be a product of your expanding business or you simply feel the need to do so.

No matter what the reason is that you need to move to another server, it is important to understand that website migration is not the easiest thing to do. It can generate quite a stress for website owners and administrators, in addition to the multiple risks that you will encounter when transferring your site.

However, if you are decided on doing so, then it is important for you to learn these four useful tips to remember when moving to another server.

Tip 1: Download Your Backup Files from Your Old Server

The first thing that you need to do when you are going to transfer to another server is to download your backup files from your old server. If you are using cPanel on your old server and the one that you are transferring to also uses the same then this task will be easier and faster to do.

The cPanel backup process is hassle free and convenient to perform. You can create backup files and restore them to your new server with just a few clicks of your mouse button.

Tip 2: Making The Transfer To The New Server

Once you have finished downloading your cPanel backup files from your old server, your new server should send you an email message after paying the initial hosting fee for your first month’s usage. This email should contain the necessary information that you need to transfer your site, including the domain name servers and IP address details. It should also include the link to access your new cPanel account for that server.

After you have received the necessary links, log in to your new cPanel account and navigate to the backup tools for that cPanel software. Upload your cPanel backup files from your old server and follow the instructions provided by the cPanel tool.

Tip 3: Check Your Databases

After you are finished uploading your cPanel backup files to your new server, you should check if your databases work.

Keep in mind that the backup file for the databases does not include information on passwords for usernames and their permissions. You will have to encode this information into the MySQL database interface on your cPanel software.

Tip 4: Double Check Everything Before Leaving Your Old Server

Before canceling your old hosting account, make sure that everything is running smoothly on your new server. Check and recheck every component and cancel your old account only when you are fully satisfied.
