This interface helps in getting answers on WHM’s backup options.
Once the account backups are enabled, the backup process will run as the cPanel user owning the backup data. Anything that a user does not own and cannot access is not backed up by the system. All the files owned by the user in the backup is included by the system.
The system thereafter include files that are not owned by the user but has access to in the backup.
A backup procedure is not supported by us that uses rsync. Although use of the rsync script with cPanel backups is possible, but still it is strongly recommended to use our tools to ensure sincere backups. Under convincing situation, the rsync script has a chance in corrupting SQL database backups.
The pkgacct script will examine the DNS zones in the DNS cluster in finding the record with the latest serial number as a result of using a DNSONLY™ cluster, and then storing the zone in the backup.
There are two scripts that are used in running the backups, they are:
When configuration files are backed up, it will be naturally stored in the dirs and files directories by the system. When the entire MySQL directory are backed up, it will store its contents in the dirs directory. These files and directories are backed up by cPanel and WHM:
One has to create a new file or directory in the /var/cpanel/backups/extras directory (like, /var/cpanel/backups/extras/etc) to work on this feature. Then one can make a way for the files desired to back up (like, /etc/example.conf).
It is strongly recommended to mount the system with the noexec option in this case. If passed from noexec to mount, the binaries fail to run on the mounted filesystem.
One can configure a file system for using the noexec option as default by editing the /etc/fstab file. It will contain list of mountable file systems together with configuration options.
/dev/sda5 /backup ext3 defaults,noexec 0 0
Run this command in remounting a backup disk when the system is booting:
mount -o remount,noexec /backup
