cPanel and WHM; What’s Next?

Posted by Jamison on 30 03 2016.

Back in 2007, the brains behind cPanel & WHM launched version 11 for both platforms. Because this version has stayed for eight years, many have begun to ask whether this is the last version or if version 12 will ever see the light of the day.

The answer to all these questions is simple: cPanel and WHM 12 is not happening. However, this does not mean that the experts will not release a new version. In fact, all users will be excited about the next chapter for these products: the cPanel & WHM 54.

Saying Goodbye to 11

According to the cPanel blog, they will eradicate 11 to make things simpler, especially for their software’s naming convention. You, along with all other users, do not have to worry about the name change affecting any part of your experience, as it will not have any effect on the platforms’ functionalities.

Saying Goodbye to 11

According to the cPanel blog, they will eradicate 11 to make things simpler, especially for their software’s naming convention. You, along with all other users, do not have to worry about the name change affecting any part of your experience, as it will not have any effect on the platforms’ functionalities.

The primary goal behind this move is to minimize the confusion many cPanel and WHM users have experienced when it comes to determining which exact version they have.

When the Change Will Take Effect

cPanel & WHM users will no longer see “11” on the name of the version they will use with the next release. Instead, they will see cPanel & WHM 54. And while the name has changed, you will still see some of the components of version 11 for some period of time.

Phasing Out of the X3 Interface

Users of cPanel & WHM within the last eight years know that there is only one, albeit extremely popular theme for both platforms: X3. And while it did serve its purpose, and effectively at that, the company has decided that it is time for a major change. This involves the complete phasing out of X3.

Once the experts roll out cPanel & WHM 54, they will also gradually phase out the X3 interface. However, users implementing a customized theme can still enjoy it for an indefinite period of time before they, like every other user, would have to finally bid the popular theme goodbye.

Modernizing Every User’s Experience

There is no doubt about it: X3 was an amazing interface, and everyone who experienced it knows as much. But with the introduction of Paper Lantern, the creators knew that X3’s reign was about to end. Paper Lantern, aside from boasting of a much prettier appearance, also delivered more, especially in terms of better experience for web hosting companies and their customers.

More Improvements to Expect

All cPanel and WHM users can expect even more awesome improvements and innovations starting from the release of version 54. The new interface will keep many of the same functionalities that users have grown accustomed to and continue to love. However, additions like “favorites” will also come with the new version.

Just in case you still want X3 and you are not ready for a huge change yet, know that a version, called “Retro Style,” will come built into the soon-to-be released interface.
