With cPanel, website owners do not need to know how to code and instead; can use a mouse to host a website and integrate all the wonderful applications that cPanel offers.  With hosting a website, administrators must safe keep all the important information by backing up accounts regularly. Here is how you can effectively back up your accounts through the use of cPanel.

Access the cPanel’s’ Files Section

The first step at backing up your accounts in cPanel is to log in to the Home Interface where you have multiple features. Scroll down to the Files section and click on the Backup option.

Download a Full Website Backup

Upon clicking the Backup option, you will be directed to the Example Company screen. Here you will need to click on the Download a Full Website Backup option. This allows you to keep a local copy of all your website’s files. It also gives you the option of moving them to an entirely new server.

In the event that you wish to manually download specific account backups, there is an Account Backup window where you can select specific backup files with accompanying date and time. Underneath the box is a Download button that you can click on to download files manually.

Saving a Backup to your Home Directory

After clicking on the Download a Full Website Backup button, you will be directed to the Backups Available for Download screen where there is a Generate a Full Backup feature. Click on the Backup Destination window where you will be given the options:

  • Home Directory
  • Remote FTP Server
  • Remote FTP Server (passive mode transfer):
  • Secure Copy (SCP)

In the event you choose the FTP Server option, you will need to fill out all the required information in the additional boxes found below. If you have access to the remote server, you will need to contact the system administrator of that server to provide you with the right information.

Generate a Full Backup

Typically when backing up accounts, it is recommended to save the file in your home directory. To achieve this, select the Home Directory option found on the Backup Destination window then click on the Generate Backup button. Once the backup has downloaded, the system will notify you with a confirmation page. Once the download is complete, click on the Go Back Button to be re-directed back to the Backup Section where you can manually download all backup files.
