The ability to edit and direct traffic effectively is a very useful tool when it comes to internet marketing. By editing DNS records, you could effectively direct people to pages within your site, which is relevant to their queries. By doing so, you do not only save your client’s time but you also make your site more user friendly and convenient.
How DNS work
DNS or Domain Name System is a system by which a server (DNS Server) compiles internet addresses and domain names. They basically convert the human-readable domain names to IP addresses. The DNS simply directs you to the right website every time you key in an address. Without DNS servers, you will most likely be ending up at the wrong website every time you go to the Internet.
Why Edit DNS records
Editing DNS records gives you more control over the traffic that flows to your website. You can direct clients to the right pages and make it easier for them to browse on your site. This saves them time and you can also guarantee that the resulting pages will be relevant to their query. In other words, it gives you more control over your site and your visitors.
How to edit DNS records in cPanel
Editing DNS records in cPanel is very easy. All you have to do is to follow these simple steps. First, you’ll have to log in to your cPanel account. From the home page, you’ll have to scroll down and go to the “domains” section and click on either “simple DNS zone editor” or “Advanced DNS zone editor” icon. Although these two options does not differ in function, the Advance DNS zone editor on the other hand has more options and capabilities than the simple DNS editor. Either way, you can use both of them to edit DNS records.
To edit DNS records using the simple editor, just click on the simple editor icon from the domains section located at the cPanel’s main menu selection tabs. Upon clicking the icon a page with two options will appear. One option is for adding A records and the other one is for adding CNAME records. Add the corresponding record on their respective panel and then click on the “add record” button once you have keyed in the name and address. A list of user defined record will be displayed at the bottom of the screen.

The advanced option contains some features not found on the simple editor. Thus it gives you more flexibility and control over your DNS connections. These functions are as follows: the capability of editing TXT records, manage current records and to reset the entire DNS records to default settings.
Adding records and deleting records shall be easy from here on. Just make sure that you key in the right values and texts at their respective slots so that you won’t cause any problems.
