Posted by Jamison on 26 11 2014.

Some people think that creating a website is already the most important part of a business’ digital marketing strategy. While this is indeed an important investment and action to do, the success of the business cannot be directly correlated with the launch of its website. It is usually attributed to how a website is maintained, on how it continues to relay the brand messaging across its audience, and how it effectively represents the brand in the digital sphere. As an entrepreneur, maintaining and managing your own website seems to be big challenge. The first thing that you would think of may be to hire an expert to handle the website side of the business.

However, when you choose cPanel, you do not need to worry about the technical side of the website story, because it provides you with features, tools, and apps that will guide you in creating and maintaining your site. cPanel is known to be a top choice among linux based businesses and for entrepreneurs who want to capture a bigger market. It also has features that help you run your website efficiently and that will equip you with tools that will protect your website from other possible threats and risks.

Another important thing you should learn with cPanel is its basic features to get you started. The next thing you need to learn about are the advanced features that you can use to further improve your site. You can also use these tools so you can advantage of cPanel’s security features.

In order for you to maintain your website, you need to protect your account especially if it is very significant to your business.

Because you want to make sure you capture a wide market, you need to create an attractive site, you will include a wide selection of images and files. This can be good to your site as it makes people more attracted to your products and services but at the same time, it also allows others to link to your images and display them on their own blogs or website. They can simply use the <IMG> tag. People can do this by stealing without your knowledge. This can result to a significant bandwidth loss.

cPanel can help protect your site with its hotlink protection tool. It works by preventing other websites from linking to your files that you have specified. When a user visits the website that stole your image, it cannot load the pictures from your own pages. This is one of the ways on how the hotlink protection can limit the outbound traffic for your account.

Another way of security challenge would be for a different website using HTML code so it will display an image for your site. Through this, the other website will use up your bandwidth quota.

You should know how to use your hotlink protection tool. You just have to click on the hotlink protection icon on cPanel’s main page and follow the detailed instructions. You can specify the websites that you only want to have access to your files. You have the authority on whether you can allow your friends or colleagues to link to your images or banners.  At the very least, this allows you to protect your site from strangers using up your own bandwidth.

First, log in to cPanel, then select the HotLink protection option that you can find under the security panel. Take note that your account’s default set up is that the hotlink protection is disabled, but it is very simple on how you can activate it. You just have to click on the enable button. After coming up with a list of sites that you will allow to link to your site, you can see a new page with the file extensions doe which you requested protection. You can do this by ciring a list of URLs inside the URLs to allow access box so you can enable only specified and restricted users to access your site. You also need to make a list of extensions inside the Block direct access for these extensions to indicate the extensions that you want to block from accessing your site.
